Spelling words:  Words with the silent e.  These words will have a long vowel sound.

List One:

 late,poke,bite,make,bone,fume,dive,robe,mule,size

                                    

 List Two: 

concentrate,polite,costume,educate,parade,exercise,perfume,telephone,envelope,porcupine

High Frequency Words for all students: were,what,people,are,your

5 words to be determined by the pattern of the week

Homework:

Monday:  20 minutes of reading for reading log

                 Write a sentence for each spelling word 1-10 on your list: pencil only, neatly done, quality!

No homework means no recess.

Sentence must be at least five words and some  meaning of the word can be determined by your sentence.

Homework must be done on notebook paper with a pencil.  Students are to put their name and number in the upper right corner.  They know the procedure for this!

 Make sure you know the mean of your words 1-10.  We may have a pop vocabulary quiz at the end of the week.  :)

Wednesday: 20 minutes of reading for reading log

Spelling City, use the link on the right to do a practice test and a game.

Please continue to use XtraMath when time allows.  It is a great way for students to practice facts.  I will be moving students to subtraction very soon.

Khan Academy:  You may begin using Kan Academy.  I have no real directions for this, so use it as you see your child needs practice or extra support.

Some parents are having trouble with the Spelling City this afternoon.  If you are not able to link with my blog, don't know what happened, just google the website and register your child yourself.  Happy spelling!

So sorry for any confusion, but our lunch time is 12:50 daily.

If you have not selected a t-shirt size for your child please do so by the end of the week.  I sent an email with a link last week.

Homework for tonight is to write a quality sentence with each spelling word, 1-10.  The sentence should have 5 or more words and the meaning of the word can be gained, somewhat, from the sentence.
Example:
The pig is a runt.
Sally's little pig was the runt of the litter.

The boy wept.
The boy wept when he learned that his friend was moving away.

I'm not looking for a definition!  However, they need to know the meaning of each word to use it correctly.

Dear Parents,

We have 5 bathroom/water breaks daily.  Also, there is a clean water fountain in our class that students are welcome to use during the day.  I make sure to keep it and the sink clean.  Our lunch time is still 11:50 and recess has been moved to before recess and not after recess.  Have a great weekend!

I love this precious class, they are so smart and sweet.  Lots of talkers, but super sweet:)

Thank you for buying books to add to our class library.  It is greatly appreciated!

Dear Parents,
On Monday I sent a link to sign your child up for Khan Academy, an enrichment/teaching math site.  Four emails were rejected, because they are not correct in Powerschool.  Please go to Powerschool and make sure your email is correct. If you signed up your child using two emails, mom and dad, please remove one of them.  It makes my class roster look twice as long, since the child should be using only one account.  It you haven't signed up for Khan Academy, please use the email that I sent on Monday to do so today!
I will send all emails using your Powerschool email starting today, so pleeeeease check it today or tonight!  If your email is not correct there, you will not get class emails.

 Khan Academy:  Today I sent an email for your child to join this group.  I'm just learning about this program, so I will be exploring it also.  Just join, using your child's name and look around the site so you can help your child navigate when it's time.  There is a place for a code, which is PCXH4Y or you can use my email address ledwards@oconeeschools.org.

Don't worry about doing any activities this week, just explore.  I understand this is good for math enrichment and for Math MAP testing practice.

You can find your child's Math MAP scores that were sent home on Friday.  You will need the math score to place your child on appropriate activities, games and lessons.

Odds and Ends

We will have our spelling test and five minute addition drill tomorrow.  Please have your child use the XtraMath to practice.  I just pulled a report and I see that 8 students haven't signed in at all to practice.  Knowing addition facts, and later subtraction facts,will be so important for math in second grade.  Please take some time each night to help your child learn basic addition facts.

Please send in the field trip donation soon.
Snack mom for the next two weeks is Lauren McGourik.
Fall MAP scores will be in your child's Friday folder.

Our Book Fair day is Thursday, September 15th.  We will go at 10:30, if you plan to join us!
Please remember to send in the field trip donation of $20.00 as soon as you can.  The first trip is October 18th to Sandy Creek Nature Center.  A sack lunch will be needed, from school or home.

I love my class!  They are the best ever:)
