I am writing this from my hotel room at Walt Disney World. I am on a trip with my daughters and two sweet grandchildren, Kinney and Drew. I wanted to say that I am thankful for my 20 little classroom turkeys. Also, I want to thank my classroom parents who are supportive and kind to me. This will be my last year and I want it to be the best year ever😊Happy Thanksgiving !

Online Math League Permission Form
RBES students have been invited my Mrs. Channell, a fifth grade teacher, to participate in the Online Math League Competition. The Nov. quiz will be paper and pencil and take place in my classroom this Friday. The test only takes 30 minutes. I am sending home a permission slips today, please read the slip and return tomorrow. I know that's a pretty quick turn around, but we can do it! Here is a little info. below and you can go to www.onlinemathleague.com if you would like more information.
There are three Online Math League contests spread throughout the school year: one in November, one in late January/early February, and one in March. These tests may be taken online or with paper and pencil. Immediately following each contest, students' names (or code numbers, if they prefer) and scores are entered into our website, where they are immediately and proudly displayed. Certificate templates for improvement and also for participation are also provided. At the end of the year, high-scoring teams and top individuals from every team entered win awards. High scoring individual entrants win awards as well.

Dear Parents,
I need your help with two things. First, students really need to know basic addition and subtraction facts. We pretty much have the addition under control. However, many are not progressing on subtraction facts after three weeks. Flash cards are great for practice and so is the Xtra Math. I think some kids like to use fingers to count on, however they need to have many memorized and I should not see fingers after Christmas for simple facts.
We will be adding and subtracting larger numbers very soon and if they don't the facts, it will slow them down greatly. Also, this is a standard for the report card.
Also, I preach this every day:), trust me. Many (truthfully, most) are not following directions on worksheets, even when I go over the directions with them before hand. I've been calling them to my table to correct and this is coming to a stop. If they don't follow directions I will be counting things wrong. It's a hard lesson to learn, but I think it may get their attention if you point it out on papers coming home.
I would appreciate your help and support. I expect a lot, only because they are capable of great things!
Thank you,
Mrs. Edwards
